Have you been to the zoo lately? School holidays can be so much more than being at home watching television. Visiting to the zoo is a great opportunity for speech and language practice! Here are a few things that can be covered while you visit the zoo!

NAMING:
Let’s name all the animals we see! Also, this is a great opportunity for vocabulary expansion for younger kids. Did your see the meerkats and orangutans? How about the komodo dragon and lemur?

CATEGORIZING: Explore categories by highlighting certain animals and listing their categories. Let’s go see all the reptiles and mammals before lunch time!
ACTIONS: What are the animals currently doing?  The giraffe is eating plants! The polar bear is lying down. The monkey swings on the tree. All the turtles are swimming!

DESCRIPTIVE WORDS: Practice describing the animals. The giraffe is tall and has a very long neck. The lion is fierce and majestic. The monkeys are flexible and fuzzy.
A zoo trip can include all of the activities above and so much more! Visit a zoo near you!
